The Shared Library Workshop

MONDAY, 13th of September. From 7p.m We open the shared library! Come with books to share and you will receive some in exchange!

We are a lot to live in a nomadic way, with temporary houses where it’s difficult to let important things that you would anyway need everywhere you may go, like: your favorite or referential books!

A solution would be to set, in different coworking places, a series of “shared libraries” where these nomadic people we are can let their books and share them with the inhabitants of this place without being afraid of seeing them disappear and, at the contrary, with the pleasure to know that we may find other books interesting for us in exchange, here or in another library built in another city somewhere. We have ideas to start it, have found an interesting zone in front of the elevator of Betahaus, where you normally have nothing else to do then…wait! and have imagined a system of deposit and reliable loan that we would like to share with you this Sunday from 5p.m

During the “shared library workshop” we would explain you how to use it and start the construction of it all together!

So bring your books and your desire of sharing references and this project would start.

Enable Session V

We are looking for submission for the  next Enable Session. If you are doing a creative project in Berlin and want to share it with a community of pro-active people, Propose it to us

It will take place next Wed 22 September at 20:00 in Open Design City

Open Design City meets Schmiede: where creative playgrounds collide

I'm off to Schmiede in Hallein in a couple of weeks, and still have no idea what it's about. But having explored such spaces before both at Palomar5, at the DMY maker lab and at Open Design City I'm very excited. When you get awesome people together and give them freedom, great things happen.

Having checked the Schmiede site, there seems to be quite a contingent going from Berlin, so why not get started early.

Schmiede crew consider yourself invited to Open Design City, ODC crew come and meet even more cool people than you already know.

Evening will begin with a few spontaneous informal presentations, and then swiftly slip into a freestyle get together. We'll set up a projector so people can show movies and footage, but powerpoint is outlawed and everyone gets 5 minutes max, with opportunity for more later if the mood takes us.

Bring your passions, share them and mingle your brains.

Thursday 9th September, 19:00 Open Design City, 19-20 Prinzessinen Strasse, Berlin

Schmiederites I look forward to meeting you.

ODC citizens here's a teaser

Don´t miss tomorrows Scanlabor!

Drumbeat Berlin: meet-up for lovers of the open web

"Beer, conversation, and pinatas."

The open web is the most powerful communication tool in the history of humanity. It is participatory, transparent, decentralized and generative.

But we can't take the freedom of the web for granted.
Join us at Drumbeat Berlin, a local meet-up for anyone who wants to help keep the web open.

Drumbeat Berlin is part of a global network initiated by Mozilla. It connects people and projects to foster the open web. We invite you to grab a beer and join us for an evening to share ideas and get involved. We'll talk about technical and social challenges facing the open web, and we'll highlight local initiatives already doing their part.

Kicking off the conversation are:

Pippa Buchanan: P2PU School of Webcraft --

Gabriel Shalom: Junto and Open Video

Ela Kagel: Transmediale Open Web Award --

This event builds on the Drumbeat workshop held in May:

"Open Design City unterwegs"

Our new DIY toy - a CNC router (self made by our resident Christophe Vaillant) combined with an oldschool thermocutter makes some nice styrofoam 3D letters!

Tintenscanner Poolparty

Datum: Sonntag, 29. August 2010 Uhrzeit: Ab 16 Uhr Ort: Open Design City, Prinessinnenstr. 19-20 (U Moritzplatz) Kosten: (scan + miniatur):  20 Eur

OpenSimSim meets Open Design City

Join our Open Source Design camp (MINI-MAKERLAB) at Betahaus Berlin on Sunday 15.08.2010 from 3pm until 8pm

Please bring along a household article that you have at least 3months in your flat already but that you actually do not need anymore. We will use it in our Makerlab so please don´t expect that you will take it back home again. The household article can be anything soft, hard, big, shiny, tiny, round, eatable, playful, kitch, electronic - No restrictions apply.

OpenSimSim is a new open source design network that will develop Design with the help of the web2.0 community which can actively
participate in the design process through a commenting and sharing interface on the internet.
The first outcomes of the beta version will be exhibited at the  official program of the Venice Architecture Biennale 2010.

Open Design City
Open Design City is a space that encourages the sharing of tools, knowledge,
ideas and skills. It is a space to explore the principles of Open Design.

POD Design
During the Biennale an augmented reality
installation will allow the visitors to comment on the
first pod prototypes that developed during the beta phase.

A pod is an intelligent unit within a flat or house that contains
all infrastructure that supports the resident.
The infrastructure can include the kitchen, bathroom or any other
appliances needed such as internet interfaces or recycling units.

Open Source Design Camp
On Sunday we invite everyone who is interested in developing
the POD ideas together with Berlin based design studio anOtherArchitect
and the OpenDesignCity crew.

Come along and become an active member of the Open Source design
of the open-pod and be part of the official program of the
12th Architectural Biennale curated by Kazuyo Sejima.

Experience and be part of the experiment to implement the Open Source
idea in architectural design! The results will be displayed in Venice.

You will get the unique chance to play around with the tools and materials
developed and stored in the ODC workshop.

The camp is open to architects, designers, geeks, eco freaks, gardeners,
chefs, writers, chemists, thinkers, DIY freaks, water experts, tailors,
home owners, pet lovers, plumbers, film makers and everyone else.

We will film the event and the documentation will be screened
at the Biennale in Venice as well. So get out your Sunday dresses and join us.
