Energy Street Fighter: Jetzt geht's los!

A bit less than a year ago, we did a enable session for the Energy Street Fighter project. For us was a very good opportunity because was the inspiration for the working model that we have been developing since then. Now we are very happy to see that it has become a reallity, and we are very exited to see what are the results of such a ventures.
Join the fight, Samstag 25th June 2011: Stargarder Strasse,  Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin.

EnableBerlin Session: Visions for Mobility

http://helixator.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/helixator_vs_poverty_01.jpg?w=758&h=596

Concept by Michel David ( Helixator )

Mobility is a major issues for the future of our cities. While policy makers, architects, urban planners, engineers and many others continuously try to invent future transport systems – from building new infrastructures and designing electrical vehicles to encourageing bike commuting and car sharing – we have the feeling that most companies and leaders still see the future transportation systems as an update or adaptation of current, state-of-the-art solutions. In order to get accurate insights on this complex topic,we need to find out how urban mobility is evolving, and in which way are paradigms shifting.

During our next session, we want to learn from Berlin’s citizens. What are our needs and our vision on mobility? What are our experiences and our wishes? What is the difference between transport and mobility? What solutions have we thought of for possible new ways of mobility?

We will gather a group of creatives who want to share insights and visions to collaboratively address these issues and prototype possible solutions.

If you are interested in taking part at our next session write us few lines. And tell us a bit about yourself and what you do, so that we can build a diverse group for the session.

Design-Thinking-Workshop

ODC (and Friends) @ Transmediale AKA "make your own market"

From the 1-6 February Open Design City will be migrating to Transmediale at the Haus der Welt Kulturen, to play within the "Open Zone".

If you would like to join us in playing at this festival of Free Culture, in the heart of an international Media Art Festival, then please come along, or if you have a specific idea to add to the brief below then please feel free to email us to join in the fun.

Our objective is to bring actions and activities to the Open Zone - whether you want to make some art, build something or create a collective action in the space we will give you the tools to do so.

Actions so far

Talk to Me About

A viral real world social networking tool - or a bubble shaped piece of paper? Tales of previous outings here

The Crowd

We got invited to DJ, but we've no experience. Instead we decided to crowd source the music. But this won't be no pick three tunes battle, YOU will make the music. Bring your voices, bring your instruments, bring something to bang on, be prepared to fail, to laugh and to maybe find some emergent harmony, wit and song in amongst it all.

Buy me or Make Me

We'll be selling products, but also you can make them yourself - come and learn how to make your own lampshades and bowls from recycled textiles, wallets from carton, knit your own hats. If you'd like to sell something and are happy to show people how to make their own then please drop us an email - thatcousinsboy@gmail.com or stop by with your tools, material and goods at the event.

Upcycling

Taking waste and turning it into objects of value

GRL IRL

SVG2BVG uses custom computer vision software to detect graffiti tags, sends the ensuing shape to a diy laser cutter, and then outputs the tag as a stencil in realtime. The stencils are conveniently sized for the television screens in the Berlin U-Bahn system, allowing you to create cheap, non-permanent, light-based graffiti in the comfort of your own transit system.

The application (Source Code coming soooon) is written in Processing, and makes extensive use of V3GA’s blobDetection library. SVG2BVG wil be shown as part of Open Design City’smake your own market’ installation at ‘the open zone‘ at Transmediale 11 (Feb 1st-6th, Berlin) as well as at the Cognitive Cities Conference (Feb 26-27th, Berlin).

Coffee Scanner

Come make a 3D scan your face in a bowl of coffee beans and water. Low tech meets high tech

Action Response

Just a fancy term for making it up as we go along

Pre Play - Getting warmed up in the space with a few actions and ideas to get us started

Collaborators

So far Graffiti Research Labs Germany, Trial and Error KulturLabor, and a host of co-conspirators are all coming to play, what would you like to do?

A note on space - we have 20 square meters to do these actions at Transmediale - as you probably figured we are going to expand our territory in negotiation with the rest of the Open Zone. However we have no idea how this will work so if you want to be sure to do something in our specific territory then send us an email outlining your space needs and time requirements (nb. please no more than 10 sqm).

Talk to me about: “why every creative city needs a fablab” – Thursday, 16.9.2010, 19 – 21 Uhr:

Why should every creative city need a fab lab? Hell I'd say why should every city, town and community should have an Open Design City.

But that's the object of this discussion, so feel free to come along and participate in the dialogue.

This discussion makes the case for Fab Labs everywhere, and hopefully we'll also receive some challenges for a healthy and flourishing dialogue. We've invited key decision makers and activists from Berlin and Lisbon to address the topic of "why every creative city needs a fab lab". I wish I were there.

Lisbon:
Tiago Cid, advisor of the city councilor Graca Fonseca, working on the first FabLab in Lisbon
Leo Xavier, founder of the first coworking space in Lisbon, Liberdade 229

Katrin Tobies, advisor Senate Department for Economics, Technology and Women's Issues
